| The Artwork of Steve Hanks |
| Steve Hanks is one of the most sought after artists in North America today. Photo-realism with this rogue medium is difficult at best, and he is the master of it. His techniques are widely studied by students and seasoned artists alike. Steve Hanks paintings are more than charming images of women and children. They speak to the vulnerability that we all feel from time to time. They evoke a nostalgia, transporting us back in time. "All art," Hanks says, "is an escape to somewhere you want to be or a feeling you want to have." Rather than conveying a specific message through his paintings, Hanks attempts to evoke an emotion. A painting of a woman reclining on a bed with sunlight streaming in through a window becomes more than that. "It takes me back to my childhood, like a good song takes me back," Hanks says. "I might see this and remember laying on my mother's bed while she read. It's keying into these memories and emotions. People see different things in these paintings because we all have different backgrounds and feelings. If you do the painting well enough, there should be a lot that people can get out of it." |
